Pearl CC 22

Cardioid Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone

The cardioid version of the 22-family has been the best-selling Pearl model for years. It offers detailed and transparent reproduction in a sleek design.

“The Pearl CC 22 is a very fine microphone, matching or exceeding the sonic capabilities of its marketplace peers. […] combining the consistent polar response of a small-diaphragm mic with the clarity and body of a large-diaphragm mic.” – Sound on Sound

Compact and well built, the Pearl 22 series are outstanding condenser microphones constructed around the 2800 rectangular capsule and a low-noise amplifier. There are currently three different versions: the cardioid CC 22, the bidirectional CB 22 and the omnidirectional CO 22.

The detailed transient reproduction and smooth off-axis response makes the 22 series an excellent choice for orchestral and choral recordings, but it is just as perfect for other transient-rich sources, such as acoustic guitar or piano.

With its crisp, natural sound and extended highs, the cardioid CC 22 is arguably the most applicable model of the three. It will act as a strong foundation for any microphone collection.

The CC 22 is finished in piano black ED lacquer with a golden logo, ring and engraved model number.

Pearl TL 44

Dual Output Microphone

The Pearl TL 44 is an updated version of the classic TL 4, and it shares many of its components with the 22 series, including the 2800 rectangular capsule and the low-noise amplifier. This means that it provides the same natural sound and smooth off-axis response as the 22 series, but unlike the cardioid CC 22, bidirectional CB 22 and omnidirectional CO 22, the TL 44 offers separate outputs for the front and back of the capsule, and, as a result, more versatility.

The dual-output configuration means that the polar pattern can be modified – seamlessly(!) – in the mixer or in post-production. If the channels are recorded separately, the engineer/mixer can go back and try out different polar patterns on the same recording. Panning the channels will even make the TL 44 act as a single-unit 180-degree stereo microphone.

The TL 44 is finished in black ED lacquer with an LED indicating 48v phantom power.

Pearl ELM-A

Multipattern Microphone

The ELM-A releases the full power of the ELM capsule. Dual outputs allow for seamless polar pattern changes in post-production.

“We did a recording with a cello sextet and a soprano placed in a circle around a single ELM-A. It was beyond compare! What a microphone!” – Joel Bexelius, Sound Engineer, Malmö Opera

Powerful and refined, the ELM-A is the ultimate Pearl. The special properties of the ELM capsule in combination with separate outputs for each side of the capsule makes for a completely unique microphone, providing engineers with a whole new level of control over the recording environment.

The 7:1 length/width ratio of the capsule means that the polar pattern for each side of the capsule looks like a standard cardioid in the horizontal plane, while it vastly reduces high frequencies in the vertical plane, a property that can be extremely useful for reducing unwanted reflections from the floor and ceiling, providing the audio engineer with a valuable tool to handle poor room acoustics and challenging acoustical environments.

The distinctive feature of the ELM-A is the separate output for each side of the capsule. If the channels are recorded separately, the polar pattern can be adjusted – seamlessly – in post-production and different patterns can be tested on the same recording. This also means that the ELM-A can act as a 180-degree stereo microphone and that it can be used for several stereo configurations, such as M-S or Blumlein, when combined with an additional microphone.

Just like the Pearl 2800 rectangular capsule, the longer ELM capsule combines the best characteristics from large and small diaphragms, i.e. low noise, detailed transient reproduction and an extremely smooth off-axis response.

In combination, the unique characteristics of the ELM series microphones make them outstanding for orchestral and choral recordings and, as a result, they can be found with symphonies and opera houses all over the world.

The ELM-A is finished in piano black ED lacquer with a white logo, ring and engraved model number.

Pearl ELM-B

Bidirectional Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone

The bidirectional version of the spectacular ELM-series is perfect as part of a stereo pair in a Blumlein or M-S configuration.

The Pearl ELM-B is the bidirectional edition of the ELM-series, built around Pearl’s spectacular extended rectangular capsule.

The 7:1 length/width ratio of the capsule means that the polar patterns looks like a standard bidirectional/figure-8 in the horizontal plane, while it vastly reduces high frequencies in the vertical plane, a property that can be extremely useful for reducing unwanted reflections from the floor and ceiling, providing the audio engineer with a valuable tool to handle poor room acoustics and challenging acoustical environments.

Just like the Pearl 2800 rectangular capsule, the longer ELM capsule combines the best characteristics from large and small diaphragms, i.e. low noise, detailed transient reproduction and an extremely smooth off-axis response.

The ELM-B is excellent as part of a stereo pair. Combine two ELM-B’s for Blumlein stereo, or pair the ELM-B with a cardioid microphone for an M-S stereo setup.

In combination, the unique characteristics of the ELM series microphones make them outstanding for orchestral and choral recordings and, as a result, they can be found with symphonies and opera houses all over the world.

Pearl ELM-C

Cardioid Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone

The cardioid version of the ELM-series provides a rich and detailed sound even in less-than-ideal acoustical environments. Excellent for orchestral recordings.

“The sound from top to bottom and the stereo picture were stunning. One of my favorite aspects of this mic was that thanks to the capsule’s natural directivity, I could use placement to de-accentuate unflattering parts of the room, such as floor and ceiling reflections.” – Mix Magazine

“I truly believe that they are phenomenal microphones. […] They have unique directional and sonic characteristics that certainly place them in a league of their own, particularly when considering large diaphragm condensers as central orchestral pairs.” – Recording Hacks

The Pearl ELM-C is the cardioid version of the ELM-series, built around Pearl’s spectacular extended rectangular capsule.

The 7:1 length/width ratio of the capsule means that the polar pattern is that of a cardioid in the horizontal plane while it vastly reduces high frequencies in the vertical axis, a property that can be extremely useful for reducing unwanted reflections from the floor and ceiling, providing the audio engineer with a valuable tool with which to handle poor room acoustics and other challenging recording situations.

“This is a mic that can be put to work very effectively to tame a less than ideal acoustic.” – Resolution Magazine

Just like the Pearl 2800 rectangular capsule, the longer ELM capsule combines the best characteristics from large and small diaphragms, i.e. low noise, detailed transient reproduction and an extremely smooth off-axis response, making the ELM-C excellent as part of a stereo pair.

In combination, the unique characteristics of the ELM series microphones make them outstanding for orchestral and choral recordings and, as a result, they can be found with symphonies and opera houses all over the world.

The ELM-C is finished in piano black ED lacquer with a yellow logo, ring and engraved model number.

“The result was pretty staggering, yielding a kit sound that had great focus and space, but with none of the room “honk” that you generally need to dial out with EQ and then supplement with individual microphones. […] I think I’ve found a new favourite for drum overheads…” – Resolution Magazine

Pearl DS-70

Multipattern Surround Microphone

With two rectangular capsules and separate outputs for all four diaphragms, the DS 70 is arguably the most potent stereo microphone on the market.

The Pearl DS 70 is a 4-channel, multi-pattern stereo and surround microphone. It features two coincident Pearl 2800 rectangular capsules in a compact and rugged body, making it a portable and extremely versatile single-unit recording device for both studio and on-location projects.

The DS 70 is an upgrade from the Pearl DS 60, which has been praised by both users and the pro audio media. The DS 60 was named “Editor’s Choice” in 2012 by German Professional Audio Magazine.

Resolution Magazine wrote: “I’ve seen quite a few variations on similar themes in the past few years, for surround, stereo and variable pattern mono applications, but the DS 60 is the one that has inspired me the most.”

Australian magazine AudioTechnology wrote: “The Pearl DS 60 is a powerful tool in any sound engineer’s box. It’s a go-to microphone for almost all applications.”

The DS 70 features two dual-membrane capsules at 90 degrees with separate outputs for each side of the capsule, allowing users to record in a number of stereo, surround and mono configurations, such as: M-S, X-Y, Blumlein, 4-channel surround and countless variations of polar patterns in both mono and stereo. If all four channels are recorded separately, polar patterns and stereo setups can be altered seamlessly(!) in post-production. The possibilities are quite literally endless.

Compared to the DS 60, the DS 70 has been upgraded with a new microphone body which minimizes internal reflections; improved internal wiring; a new capsule arrangement to reduce vibrations and to create an optimized phase accuracy between the two capsules, and updated indication markings to make the setup faster and more intuitive.

The DS 70 is delivered in an aluminium flight case with a Rycote USM shockmount, a 10-meter, 8-core cable and a 4-way splitter termination box for 4 x 3-pin XLR connectors.

Pearl MS 8CL

M-S stereo condenser microphone

A high-end solution for recording M-S stereo on location. The low weight makes the MS 8CL easy to use on a boompole or mounted directly on the camera.

“The Pearl MS is an outstanding high quality performer, with very low self-noise and transparent wide response, resulting in very clear and natural sounding low level ambience, which is where lesser microphones usually fail.” – Glen Trew (Production Sound Mixer)

The Pearl MS series microphones have been setting the standards for on-location stereo recordings for more than 30 years. The current range consists of the MS 8CL, with a cardioid mid channel, and the MSH 10, with a shotgun mid channel. Both models offer outstanding audio quality in a lightweight, yet rugged design.

The MS 8CL has separate (i.e. non-matrixed) M and S channels, which gives the engineer more control over the sound and the possibility to decide the width of the stereo image in post-production. This also means that the MS 8CL can be used as a regular mono cardioid microphone.

The Pearl 1930 shockmount is included and can be mounted directly on-camera with a hot shoe adaptor (optional). Thanks to our collaboration with Rycote, we can offer a range of high-quality accessories for even the most demanding recording conditions.
